Shunfa Polar Bear: A Minimalist and Unique Exhibition Space

Creating a Situational Experience for Chinese Stone Products

The Shunfa Polar Bear exhibition space, located in Shuitou County, Nan'an City, Fujian Province, China, adjacent to Xiamen Special Economic Zone, stands out with its simplistic design language. The designer aimed to create a minimalist and unique display space that would captivate visitors and highlight the beauty of the stone products.

The space features a color palette dominated by white, reminiscent of the skin of polar bears, and dotted with black stone materials, resembling their fur. The natural grains of the marbles used on the floors and walls serve as artistic decorations, creating a soft aesthetic under the elaborately arranged strip lights.

One of the key aspects of the Shunfa Polar Bear exhibition space is its ability to provoke interaction between people and the space. Unlike traditional showrooms, this space functions as a situational experience space, where each product becomes an important medium for engagement. It goes beyond being a mere display area and creates an experiential commercial setting.

The design team faced challenges during the project, as the client's product positioning was unclear. Several layout design schemes had to be changed and overturned until the final one was identified. However, this challenge was overcome, resulting in a space that effectively showcases the Chinese stone products.

The aesthetics of the Shunfa Polar Bear exhibition space extend beyond the marbles. The contrasting textures of stones and wood, along with the ingenious use of straight lines and curves, create a visually stunning environment. Green plants are strategically placed as decorations on a wall, adding an artistic atmosphere to the space.

The Shunfa Polar Bear exhibition space spans an area of 1200sqm and was completed in 2018. It has garnered recognition and was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2019. This award acknowledges the space's outstanding creativity, resourcefulness, and contribution to improving the quality of life.
